Project Summary
A Delray Beach Chicago brick driveway repair that preserved reusable historic brick while correcting movement, open joints and misaligned courses.
The Problem
This established Chicago brick driveway had the character the homeowner wanted to keep, but age and movement had left visible sections uneven. Courses had wandered out of alignment, joints had opened and several transition areas no longer read as one continuous surface. Replacing the entire driveway would have sacrificed usable reclaimed brick, so the goal was a careful repair and restoration rather than an unnecessary full replacement.
What We Found
We documented the existing bond, borders and changes in elevation before disturbing the surface. The repair areas required more than cosmetic joint filling: the affected brick needed to be lifted so the support below could be evaluated and corrected. We also sorted the original units by condition, separating reusable brick from pieces that were too damaged to return to service.
What We Did
Palm Beach Pavers lifted the affected courses, prepared the supporting areas and reset the serviceable Chicago brick into the established pattern. We worked in controlled sections so the repaired field would meet the undisturbed driveway naturally. Crooked lines and unstable transitions were corrected, replacement pieces were blended only where needed, and the restored courses were aligned without erasing the color and surface variation that gives authentic reclaimed brick its appeal.
The Result
The finished driveway is more even, better organized and easier to use while still looking like the original Delray Beach brickwork—not a new surface forced into an older setting. This project shows why Chicago brick repair is often the right first option when most of the material remains sound: targeted restoration can correct the failed areas, retain valuable original brick and preserve the property’s established character.
Materials / Repair Method
Existing Chicago brick was reused wherever practical, with compatible reclaimed clay brick reserved for units that could not be saved. Base material, edge support and joint material were selected to fit the original assembly and the conditions uncovered during the repair.
